Bread with Philly Cheesesteak!

The Liberty Bell, a rock theme, and cheese slice, that exquisite sandwich that is the sandwich of choice for Philadelphia natives and visitors alike, are the first things that come to mind when you hear about Philadelphia.

*Ingredients include:

2 tsp oil (vegetable)
14 green pepper, thinly sliced 14 red pepper, finely sliced 2 onions, very thinly sliced into rings
2 finely sliced mushrooms
300g meat, thinly sliced (rib steak or sirloin) salt
black pepper, freshly ground
150g white cheese (Kraft processed cheese) or 4 provolone thin slices
2 hoagie loaves (about 20 cm each) or 2 small individual baguettes (approximately 20 cm each), hot
kosher pickled dill

*Prepare the olive oil by pouring it into a big skillet and heating it over high heat.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the onions, which should only take a minute to cook.
Stir in the peppers and mushrooms, and cook until the mushrooms are black and the onions are transparent, about 5 minutes. Stir frequently.
Cook for 3 minutes, or until the meat is slightly browned, before adding the steaks. Season with salt and pepper.
Place the provolone slices on top of the meat and wait for them to melt. If you’re going to use sizzling cheese, melt it first in a double boiler.
Toast the bread by cutting it into long slices.
The meat mixture should be divided evenly between the two doughs.
If you’re using melted cheese, spread half of it on each slice of bread.
Pickled dill is served on the side (kosher dill pickle).

Have fun!
