°1 – 16oz. bundle of dried northern beans
°3 to 4 ham hocks or bones (about 1 1/2 lb)
°1 onion, diced enough water to covering beans salt / pepper to taste
°1/3 c brown sugar
Sorting the beans to remove the stones and rinsing them under cold water is the first step in making this delectable meal.
Step two: Toss the washed beans, onion, salt, pepper, and pork shanks or ham (cut into large bits) into the slow cooker after all of this. After that, pour in enough water to cover the beans by 2 inches.
Step 3: Cover and cook for the first 2 hours on low and high, then reduce to low and cook for another 4-5 hours, or until the beans are soft. After that, take out the pork shanks and all of the meat.
Step 4: The Last Step Put the meat back into the slow cooker and add the brown sugar at this point. Before adding brown sugar, I remove about a cup of fluid. It depends on the thickness of the beans. After that, lightly combine everything. Fill bowls with the mixture, serve, and enjoy!
