how to Cook a Cubed Steak with Onion Gravy Recipe?

Cubed Steak with Onion Gravy is a quick and simple dish that is a cost-effective way to feed your family beef. Steaks are cut into cubes and floured before being pan-fried. A large sliced onion and a packet of dry onion soup mix add a lot of onion flavor to this country-style steak, which is smothered in a highly tasty onion gravy.

Ingredients :

  • 1 1/2 pounds cubed steak

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil

  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 1 (14-ounce) can beef broth

  • 1 package dry onion soup mix

  • Instructions :

    Steps to follow:

In a pie plate or shallow dish, combine flour, garlic salt, and black pepper. Using the flour mixture, coat both sides of the cubed steak.
In a big skillet (cast iron is preferred), heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add steak to the mix (cooking in 2 batches if necessary). Cook for 5 minutes on each side. Take the steak out of the skillet and set it aside.
Add a few teaspoons of remaining flour from coating the steak to the drippings in the pan to thicken the gravy.
To the drippings in the pan, add the onion, stock, and onion soup mix. Scrape off any browned parts adhered to the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.
Bring to a low boil, then reduce to a low heat and cook until the onions are tender.
Return the steak to the pan to keep it heated. Serve with mashed potatoes as a side dish.
